This explains what Rod n Reel collects, why, where it goes, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
Who we are
Rod n Reel is an online fishing tackle store. We sell and ship to the United States and Canada only. You can reach us at support@rod-n-reel.com or through our contact form, and we are the ones who decide what happens to the information described here.
What we collect
- When you order: your name, email, shipping address, and phone number if you give one.
- When you create an account: the above, plus your saved addresses and order history.
- Your cookie choices: a record of what you accepted or declined, and when.
- When you subscribe to email: your email address, and the evidence of your consent — the IP address you subscribed from, your browser, and the time you confirmed.
- Security logs: IP addresses and request details, kept to detect and block attacks on the site.
- Reviews you post: what you write, and the name you attach to it.
- Messages you send us: whatever you put in the contact form or an email.
- Analytics and advertising identifiers: only if you consent to them.
Your payment card is entered directly with Stripe and never reaches our server.
Why we collect it, and on what basis
- To perform the contract: taking your order, taking payment, getting the goods to you, and handling returns. We cannot do those without this information.
- To meet legal obligations: tax and accounting law requires us to keep records of what we sold and to whom.
- With your express consent: marketing email, analytics, and advertising. You give that consent deliberately, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Cookies
Cookies needed to run the cart and checkout are always set. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only after you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer. Declining is honoured by not loading those scripts at all — nothing is loaded and then told to stay quiet. Our Cookie Policy lists what each one does.
Where your information goes
To get your order to you we pass your name and delivery address to the supplier who ships it. Some of those suppliers are outside Canada and the United States, including in China.
Stripe, Google and Meta process information in the United States. This means your information may be handled under laws other than those of the country you live in, and may be accessible to authorities there under those laws.
Who we share it with
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Our fulfilment partners — the name and address needed to deliver your order, and nothing else.
- Google and Meta — only if you consent to analytics or advertising cookies.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
- Order records: seven years, because tax law requires it.
- Marketing subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: 14 months.
- Consent records: for as long as we rely on that consent, and afterwards only as evidence that we had it.
How we protect it
The whole site runs over HTTPS. Our keys and database credentials are held outside the web root, where a web request cannot reach them. Administrator accounts require two-factor authentication. We do not store card numbers, because we never receive them.
Your rights in Canada
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to marketing or analytics at any time. Email support@rod-n-reel.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep order records that tax law requires us to retain.
If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Your rights in the United States
Depending on your state, you may have the rights below. The categories we collect are listed under What we collect: identifiers, commercial information about what you bought, internet activity if you consented to analytics, and the content of anything you send or post.
- To know what we collect and what we do with it.
- To delete what we hold, except records we must keep by law.
- To correct anything inaccurate.
- To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell it, and we share it for advertising only if you have consented.
We honour Global Privacy Control signals. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights — no worse price, no reduced service. An authorised agent may make a request for you, and we will ask for proof that you authorised them.
Children
This site is not directed at people under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email support@rod-n-reel.com and we will remove it.
Marketing email is opt-in only, and confirmed by clicking a link we email you. Creating an account or placing an order does not subscribe you. Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link and our contact details, and unsubscribing takes one click.
Automated decision-making
We do not make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top is when this version took effect. If we change something material we will say so on the site rather than quietly swapping the text.
